A new precast floor system known as BubbleDeck has been used in just a few buildings in Canada so far.

Now Armtec, a company that manufacturers various structural systems, has signed a three-year exclusive contract to manufacture, sell and erect the system in Quebec and the Greater Ottawa region.

The BubbleDeck precast system comprises large plastic balls that are inserted in a steel lattice into which concrete is poured. The floor maintains its full biaxial strength but requires less concrete, thus indirectly reducing carbon emissions from the manufacture of cement.

Teknika HBA used the system in the Residences of the Ecole de Technologie Supérieure in downtown Montreal, which won a 2009 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award (click here)
