Canadians about to have their own ENERGY STAR benchmarking tool

Natural Resources Canada is launching a new ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager in July. The online tool is used for benchmarking buildings’ energy performance against each other.

NRCan has been working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to tailor the U.S. tool for Canadian users, so that they can use data from Canadian buildings for comparison.

From July 10, the new Energy Star 1-100 performance scores will be available for Canadian K-12 schools and commercial offices. For other building types, Canadian energy use intensity (EUI) scores will be available.

Canadian buildings will no longer receive a U.S. 1-100 Energy Star performance score, and Canadian data will be stored separately from U.S. data.

June 25 is the last day that the current Energy Star Portfolio Manager will be operational until the new tool is launched on July 10. The last day to submit data using the EPA’s imported facility spreadsheet was May 14.
