The film Polytechnique about the Montreal Massacre won nine out of 11 categories in which it was nominated at the Genie Awards announced April 12. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is a dark portrayal of the events of December 6, 1989 at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, when 14 women, mostly engineering students, were shot to death by a lone gunman.
The film won as best film, best direction and best original screenplay.
