Company news round-up: CH2M HILL, Enermodal, Stantec, Hemisphere, Dessau

CH2M HILL and Stantec Consulting were the consulting engineers for the recently completed upgrades to the Leamington Pollution Control Centre in southwest Ontario. The upgraded plant has a rated capacity of 3,000 cubic metres per day, and a peak flow rate of 70,000 cubic metres per day. It is a conventional activated sludge plant, complete with fine bubble aeration and UV disinfection. The project recently won the Windsor Construction Association’s Award of Excellence in the environment category for 2011.

Enermodal, part of the MMM Group, was the LEED consultant for the RBC Centre, which recently became the largest project certified LEED Gold for New Construction. The 1.2-million sq. ft. office tower in downtown Toronto is owned by Cadillac Fairview. It is predicted to save 40% energy, thanks to features such as a reflective roof, use of deep lake water cooling, high performance and operable windows. It also has automated light shelves and blinds, as well as a rainwater harvesting system. Bregman + Hamann and Kohn Pedersen Fox are the architects.

Three teams have been shortlisted to submit proposals for the Alberta government’s latest bundle of P3 schools. The shortlisted teams are ABC Schools Group, which includes Stantec; the Alberta Consortium for Education, which includes Parsons Brinckerhoff, Halsall, Hemisphere Engineering and O2 Planning + Design; and Build to Learn3 (includes Graham Design Builders/Barr Ryder Architects.  

Dessau designed a curved girder bridge that spans Highways 640 and 15 north of Montreal. The bridge, which won a 2011 Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Award of Excellence, was part of a larger project to redesign the interchange to handle more traffic.
