HDR Corporation is the subconsultant for traffic and safety services to SNC-Lavalin for a project to rehabilitate 17 bridges at two major intersections on Highway 401 in Toronto — the busiest highway in North America. The intersections are at the junctions with Allen Road and Highway 400 going north. Traffic at the intersections averages between approximately 380,000 and 500,000 vehicles per day. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2012.
BBA, a consulting engineering firm of 700 employees based in Mont-St Hilaire, Quebec, has opened two new offices in the province. One is in Quebec City on Laurier Boulevard. Staff there specialize in process controls. The other office is in Brossard with a team specializing in the mining sector and administrative services. BBA has grown from 400 to over 700 staff since 2010.
Allnorth Consultants of Surrey, B.C. has acquired Axxent Engineering of Bedford, Nova Scotia. Axxent was founded in 2006 and with 45 professionals provides services to the mining and forestry sectors. Allnorth is working on projects in B.C., Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia and Mexico.
Stephen Carpenter, P.Eng., president of Enermodal Engineering, a member of the MMM Group, has been named as one of the inaugural class of LEED Fellows by the Green Building Certification Institute. The GBCI is affiliated with the U.S. Green Building Council, which founded the LEED green building rating system. Peter Templeton, president of GBCI said, “The Fellows are some of the leading innovators and vanguards of the green building movement.” Mark Hutchinson, director of the green building programs at the Canada Green Building Council said: “Without Steve, LEED Canada would not be where it is today. We are extremely grateful for the strong commitment and service that Steve has dedicated to the CaGBC and to establishing LEED in Canada.”
There are 34 LEED fellows in total. Paul Marmion of Stantec and Anthony Bernheim of AECOM are also named as Fellows. The class will be officially recognized at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Toronto from October 4-7.
AMEC has been ranked No. 1 leader for oil equipment and services in the worldwide Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 2011-12. This is the third year in succession that AMEC has been the industry leader.
