InfraGuide is the “National Guide to Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure,” a joint project of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the National Research Council and Infrastructure Canada.
Based on Canadian experience and research, the 21 Best Practice reports provide support in making sustainable municipal infrastructure decisions and actions in six key areas: 1) municipal roads and sidewalks 2) potable water 3) storm and wastewater 4) decision making and investment planning 5) environmental protocols and 6) transit.
In 2001, the federal government, through its Infrastructure Canada Program and the National Research Council, joined forces with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to create the guide. Fund by a $12.5 million investment from Infrastructure Canada, it consists of in-kind contributions, technical resources, the collaborative effort of municipal practitioners, researchers and other experts, and a host of volunteers throughout the country.
