A study done by University of Victoria entitled “Flushing the Future,” has found that Montreal has a worse problem with a crumbling water infrastructure than any other Canadian city. The Montreal distribution network has sections predating confederation.
The study was based on statistics from Environment Canada. It found that about 37 percent of Montreal’s total water is unaccounted for. The national average of water system losses is 13 per cent.
The report was summarized in the Canadian Water Quality Association newsletter Drips and Drops, October issue.
