Infrastructure Ontario has issued a request for proposals for the first new purpose-built criminal courthouse in the city of Toronto. The Toronto West Courthouse will have 20 courtrooms, including two major crime courts, and will be located on the old Westwood Theatre site on Bloor Street West near Kipling Avenue.

The request for proposals was issued for an architectural firm to lead the process of “planning, design and compliance,” which includes preparing key design guidelines and performance requirements for whoever will ultimately build the facility.

Another request for proposals was issued the same day for companies to fulfil the same role for a new courthouse in Belleville. The new Quinte Consolidated Courthouse will be built on Coleman Street near the city hall, taking the place of two existing courthouse facilities in Belleville and one in Trenton.
