ACEC has urged the federal government to invest in planning and design in its 2000 Budget if it wants construction to begin in 2001 under the new National Infrastructure Program announced in the October Speech from the Throne. ACEC has also urged the federal government to allow municipal spending on pre-construction activities in 2000 to be eligible for funding under the new National Program.
ACEC expressed these concerns after hearing from members at the 3rd Annual Government Relations Day held in Ottawa before Christmas. The Hon. Herb Gray, Deputy Prime Minister, was the keynote speaker at the meeting.
