On November 5, 2002, ACEC held its annual Government Relations Day on Parliament Hill with visits to Members of Parliament from different political parties in the House of Commons. The main message this year was the need for a well-funded, long-term national infrastructure program. In the evening, a special reception was jointly organized by ACEC, the Canadian Construction Association, Construction Specifications Canada and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. In attendance were dozens of industry leaders from across Canada, Members of Parliament from all parties, including the federal Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), the Hon. Ralph Goodale, and former Deputy Prime Minister Herb Gray.

The evening provided a unique opportunity for industry leaders to celebrate the achievement of the construction, architectural, and engineering sectors. One of the highlights of the reception was the presentation of a special award to legendary Canadian author and historian Pierre Berton for his efforts in promoting the role of the design and construction sectors in the development of Canada.

“This is the second year that ACEC has partnered with the other design and construction associations for the evening reception,” explained ACEC President Claude Paul Boivin. “Working together has given our common causes more visibility with parliamentarians and has maximized our lobbying efforts”
