Cobalt Engineering of Vancouver has acquired an electrical engineering company, Mahanti/Chu Engineering Ltd. Until now Cobalt has been a single-discipline mechanical consulting firm, with an emphasis on sustainable designs.
“The move is an acknowledgement that clients on the global market are more comfortable with mechanical and electrical being managed together,” said Colt’s managing partner Edward Smith. “We’re also evolving toward becoming a pure design office, which reflects what we believe is Canada’s emerging international role.”
Cobalt is an 80-person firm in downtown Vancouver. Formed in 1986, the firm’s portfolio of projects include the Vancouver Aquarium Discovery Education Centre, Mount Saint Joseph Hospital and the UBC Okanagan District Energy System and Lab building.
Mahanti/Chu Engineering was founded in 1988 also in Vancouver. As electrical and lighting engineers they have worked for clients as diverse as Famous Players, the Sechelt Justice Building, the Vancouver Aquarium and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.
