The Federation of Canadian Municipalities has announced that beginning December 1 it will start accepting new applications for its Green Municipal Fund.

The program has a new competitive selection process for projects in these sectors. The fund provides below market loans and grants to capital projects in the areas of energy, transportation, waste and water sectors, and brownfield development.

Those doing plans, feasibility studies and field tests are also eligible to apply for grants after December 1.

The Canadian government gave $550 million to the Canadian Federation of Municipalities to establish the Green Municipal Fund. It leverages both public and private sector funding for projects that provide improvements in air, water, soil quality and climate protection.
