Legendary female engineer wins Ontario award

Professional Engineers Ontario and the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers will be presenting their Gold Medal to Professor Monique Frize, P.Eng. this year.
The awards are to be handed out on November 20.
Professor Frize, a professor at both Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, has long been a leading spokesperson for female engineers in Canada. She recently published a book on the subject, which combines history, with research and her personal experience. The book, entitled “The Bold and the Brave: a History of Women in Science and Engineering,” is published by the University of Ottawa Press (2009).
Dr. Frize became the first Chair of the Canadian Committee on Women in Engineering in 1992, and was inducted as an officer in the Order of Canada in 1993. Her field of expertise is biomedical engineering, and she is currently in the Department of Computer and Systems Engineering at Carleton, and the School of Information Technology and Engineering at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Frize has been a juror for the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards, most recently in 2009.
