The City of Mississauga's first LEED-certified building was celebrated on Earth Day, April 22. The Garry W. Morden Centre at Ninth Line and Highway 401 received its LEED-Silver accreditation in February.
The City of Mississauga’s first LEED-certified building was celebrated on Earth Day, April 22. The Garry W. Morden Centre at Ninth Line and Highway 401 received its LEED-Silver accreditation in February.
Prime consultant was Masri O Inc. Architects, with MTE Consultants (structural and civil), MNE Engineering (mechanical-electrical), CFMS Consulting (commissioning), John George Associates (landscape), and Morrison Hershfield (LEED consultant).
Located on a 36-acre site, and built by the city in partnership with the Department of National Defence and Peel Regional Police, the centre is a training facility used by Mississauga’s Fire and Emergency Services, as well as other organizations such as the Toronto Scottish Army Reserve. It includes a 63,000-sq.ft. administration building, a driver track used by Peel Regional Police, smoke tower, burn house, and a stormwater management pond used for water and ice rescue training.
Completed in 2012, the administrative building’s green features include an energy-efficient HVAC system, radiant heating in the garage bays, a grey water system and high-reflective roof membrane.
