New  APEGBC Sustainability Guidelines are now available online and will come into effect in January 2014. Approved last November, the guidelines are an important revision to guidelines that had not been updated since 1995.

The primary obligation of the guidelines is that members must discuss with their clients or employers the opportunity to incorporate sustainability into the project or work. Sustainable options would only be presented if the client or employer wishes to proceed. If the client or employer declines, the member’s obligation is complete.

The Sustainability Committee revised the guidelines based on consultations with committees and divisions, and conducted an online survey and webinar presentation for members.

Training and educational seminars and webinars on the revised guidelines will be offered throughout the province as Continuing Professional Development opportunities. Also a presentation will be made at the APEGBC Annual Conference and AGM in Whistler, BC, in October 2013.
