Responding to a predicted huge rise in global demand for clean water as well as a need to service its own residents, the Ontario government’s 2010 budget promises to position the province as a leader in clean water and wastewater technologies.
The 2010 budget gave plans to develop “a wide ranging water strategy to make Ontario the North American leader in water conservation and innovation, and protect Ontario’s water resources for future generations.”
The government is preparing a Water Opportunities Act to support the development of new technologies. It will work with universities, colleges and “entrepreneurs” to attract water expertise to the province.
The government said it also plans to improve the efficiency of water and wastewater infrastructure in Ontario.
