Francois Morton, regional vice president of UMA’s B.C. Region was appointed president of Consulting Engineers of British Columbia in June. Two newly elected directors of the CEBC Board for 2007-2008 are Karen Savage, principal of Horizon Engineering and Donna Howes of iTrans Consulting.<br>

Three Canadians have been given Distinguished Service Awards from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). They are Michel Bernier, P.Eng., professor at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal; K. William Dean, P.Eng., facilities manager at the National Research Council of Canada’s Plant Biotechnology Institute in Saskatoon; and William J. McCartney, partner with Isotherm Engineering of Mississauga, Ontario.<br>

Robert T. Tamblyn, P.Eng., principal of Tamblyn Consulting Services in North Toronto won ASHRAE’s Distinguished 50-Year Member Award. Francois L’Anglais of Sillery, Quebec was given the same award. The awards were recognized at ASHRAE’s annual meeting in Long Beach, California held June 23-27.<br>

Martin Roy, ing., president of the consulting firm Martin Roy et associes of Montreal, has won the Grand Prix d’Excellence from the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ). The award is the professional body’s most distinguished mark of recognition for a practising engineer. Roy launched his own firm in 1992 and has become recognized for his role in sustainable engineering projects such as the Benny Farm in Montreal (North America’s gold winner in the first Holcim awards) and TOHU, le Chapiteau des art du Cirque.<br>

Dr. Michael Davies, P.Eng. has been appointed vice president of mining for AMEC Earth & Environmental.<br>

Associated Engineering has made some new appointments: Paul Dufault, P.Eng. as manager of the water and environmental group in Burnaby, B.C.; Bill Heywood as manager of the water and environmental group in Regina, and Larry Martin, P.Eng., as manager of the infrastructure group in Burnaby B.C. Alan Pentney, P.Eng., joined the Calgary office as a senior water specialist, coming from a long career with Alberta Environment.<br>
