Projects under way: Buckland & Taylor, AMEC, Black & McDonald

Buckland & Taylor of Vanouver, as a sub-consultant to AECOM on a team with Flatiron Constructors, Dragados, Aecon and Lafarge has won the Northeast Anthony Henday Project. The $1 billion project is the last portion of the Anthony Henday Ring Road in Edmonton, Alberta.in Edmonton.

The project involves 27 kilometres of six- and eight-lane divided roadway, eight interchanges, nine flyovers, and 47 total bridge structures.

Buckland & Taylor’s scope of work is to design and provide construction engineering services for the two main roadway bridges and the pedestrian pathway crossing over the North Saskatchewan River. Each bridge is comprised of cast-in-place segmental twin concrete boxes and is over 300 m in length.

AMEC and its 50/50 joint venture partner, Black & McDonald, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by International Power Canada to design a 10-MW solar photovoltaic plant in Brockville, eastern Ontario.

The AMEC Black & McDonald joint venture has been involved in wind power projects on a design-build basis before. However, this is the first time the joint venture will work together on a utility-scale solar project in Canada and the first Canadian-based utility-scale solar project for AMEC. The project is now under construction and will soon be providing energy under Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff program.
