Three senior executives join up to offer training

Three senior engineers associated with three different consulting engineering firms have formed a team to offer practical training and coaching to consulting engineering executives and staff.

Three senior engineers associated with three different consulting engineering firms have formed a team to offer practical training and coaching to consulting engineering executives and staff.

Design Firm Seminars or “DFS” is a team of: John Boyd, P.Eng., Ph.D. who has 30 years of experience with Golder Associates, including as a past president of its Canadian operations; Andrew Steeves, P.Eng., MBA, who has 30 years of experience principally with ADI Limited (now exp.) and held various positions as division manager; and Ben Novak, who has a B.Eng. and Diploma in Business Administration, and joined Stantec in 1982 as senior-vice president.

Both John Boyd and Andrew Steeves are former Chairs of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC), and Ben Novak was an accredited pier reviewer with ACEC (US).  John Boyd is also a former president of FIDIC, the international federation of consulting engineers.

The DFS group is offering training as lectures, workshops or coaching in topics oriented to different levels. For principals and owners, for example, the list includes sessions on strategic planning, advanced risk management and mergers and acquisitions. For senior staff and company associates, the topics include negotiating, human resources and advanced accounting. For intermediate level professionals topics include project management basics, marketing and basic accounting. For junior level staff suggested topics include client/consultant relations, profits and costs, and project organization and management.
